About The Gruson Fund

Michael Gruson

Despite the best surgical and medical treatment currently available, Michael Gruson died of a brain tumor on December 20, 2005. Michael was a long-time partner of Shearman & Sterling LLP and an internationally recognized legal scholar and practitioner. Michael bravely fought against the fatal illness and continued working until the very end of his life. In order to carry out Michael's wish to provide support for brain tumor research to help other patients his family has established The Gruson Fund for Brain Tumor Research and Care.

Mission Statement

The Gruson Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to encourage and support scientific research to advance the treatment of and the eventual cure of brain tumors. In furtherance of this objective, The Gruson Fund intends to:

Fund research into the causes of brain tumors and the most advantageous techniques and types of treatment available to brain tumor patients;

Advance research on an international level by supporting lectures, collaborative projects and fellowships among educational institutions and hospitals; and

Work with educational and other non-profit organizations having the same objectives as The Gruson Fund.

Members of The Gruson Fund's board of directors are Hiroko Gruson, Ph.D., chair, Eugenie Doyle. M.D. and Bradley K. Sabel, Esq. Several leading health care professionals who are active In conducting research on brain tumors have agreed to serve as a scientific advisory board to asslst in the evaluation of projects worthy of funding.

The first New York annual report for The Gruson Fund is due to be filed with the New York State Attorney General's Charities Bureau by May 15, 2007.
